What to expect:
On your first visit you will undergo a full consultation to find out general details about yourself such as your name, GP, contact details, general health, and any medication/illness you may have (this information is taken in complete privacy and kept in a secure location).
This is followed by an assessment to find out about the history of the injury you are attending treatment for. A few typical questions include:
When did the injury occur?
What causes the injury?
Can you describe the pain? (dull, sharp, achy) Intensity (1 -10)
What makes the pain worse, or what eases the pain?
If you cannot recall a particular injury that has caused the symptoms, other medically related questions may be appropriate to rule out any serious problems.
Once an accurate, detailed history is received you will be taken through an assessment to find out the nature and severity of the injury.
This includes an assessment of:
Range of movement
Strength
Neurovascular tests
Special tests for the injury
Joint mobility
Palpation
Functional tests
Once the assessment is completed a plan will be discussed with you including what treatment you need, and advice on whether to rest, ice, heat, stretch or perform certain exercises to assist the healing of the injury.
